The Doug Innes Memorial Scholarship
The Doug Innes Memorial Scholarship honours the life and legacy of Doug Innes (1932–2023), a beloved Edmonton musician and long-time member of the Trad Jazz Society of Alberta. A self-taught clarinetist and saxophonist, Doug played entirely by ear, building a repertoire of thousands of tunes and performing regularly across the Prairies for decades. His deep love of traditional jazz, combined with his generosity of spirit and commitment to community music-making, made him a cornerstone of the local scene well into his later years.
Established in his memory, this scholarship supports emerging musicians pursuing their studies at MacEwan University. It reflects Doug’s lifelong belief that music is meant to be shared, learned, and carried forward from one generation to the next.
The Trad Jazz Society of Alberta is proud to champion music education and to support young artists as they develop their craft. Through initiatives like this scholarship, we remain committed to fostering the next generation of musicians and ensuring that the rich tradition of jazz continues to thrive.
